WHAT IS 'VISION 2040'?

In fall of 2024, the Post 416 leadership team became concerned of our well-intentioned but somewhat haphazard ideas for construction on the remaining ~8 acres of undeveloped land at 5419 South Alston Avenue. To address this challenge in a strategic manner, Post 416 has undertaken a special project called "Vision 2040": a plan to identify the specific needs of our community consistent with existing American Legion initiatives and then develop a site plan to be accomplished by the year 2040. Vision 2040 will be accomplished in phases:

  • Phase 1 - A survey of use concepts was sent out to Post 416 membership, friends, partners, and neighbors inquiring their opinion of the priorities which should be addressed. This phase occurred January 1, 2025, through March 15, 2025. Results of the survey are recorded in our Phase 1 Report.

  • Phase 2. CURRENT PHASE. Using the information gathered in the phase 1 report, a site development plan will be created for the entire Post 416 property at 5419 South Alston Avenue. It should provide renderings of a proposed year 2040 view of the property, include estimated construction costs by structure/use, and present any government/environmental challenges. There will be additional fundraising required for this phase.

  • Phase 3. Using the information gathered in the site development plan, fundraising will be initiated for each structure/use and construction started once fully funded.
